Dear redditors of r/Belgium, could you share some of your wisdom when it comes to purchasing a house in Belgium, namely in West Flanders? As I have never owned a house, I do not want to end up in a weird situation where I am sold something I cannot handle.
Basically, there will be no mortgage involved, but rather a full transfer that covers all the costs. Ideally, the house will be new, not pre-owned. However, the issue is that I am scared there might be taxes and perhaps other costs involved that need to be taken into account and which I am completely unaware of at this point of time. So I would really like to speak to someone who knows all the ins and outs. Going to a real estate agent or a company that builds homes can be risky because they can just give me lots of horseshit and I will probably believe at least some of it which is exactly what I want to avoid.
Are there are any specialists who can give honest very detailed advice and prepare someone for a home purchase? If so, could you please explain who they are and share their contact information? I am not sure if laws are different depending on the province, but I do think that taxes might differ.
Thank you in advance for any valuable insights! Hope to finally have a house soon as I have never had my own place before.
