One can find a few things on Archive.org and Netflix, and one can find a few very short fan-made dubs (fandubs) on YouTube, but as a whole there isn't a lot that's easy to find. The Norwegian Dubs Wikia (Norske Dubber Wiki) has many anime that I can't find on any of the three aforementioned services.

But as said, even Norwegian subs is good enough for me. I just want to reduce my reliance on the English language, so that I can improve my Norwegian and improve my Japanese simultaneously. Of course, I could make the subtitles myself and share them, if nobody else has done this work already — I'm just scared that I'd make a lot of grammatical mistakes (according to other people, at least). If I had a proofreader this maybe wouldn't be a problem...

Ja jeg vet at det er 5 om morgenen jeg har ingen grunn til å våkne tidlig / Yeah I know it's 5 AM, I just have no reason to wake up early

Have you tried subscene or using the filter by language option on nyaa?

Sorry, how do I filter by language on Nyaa? I only see "non-English-translated", nothing more specific. I can search the words "norsk" and "Norwegian" and get a few results, but I don't think that's what you're talking about.

I must have misremembered, probably combined the two in my head.

Sorry about that, it’s been a while since I’ve actually downloaded anime.

If I was to try and solve this though, I’d find the name of the show in Norwegian and use that instead of the English or Japanese name.

Maybe go to a Norwegian anime fan site, type in the Japanese name, and hopefully the results that pop up include both the Norwegian and Japanese title, like a Rosetta Stone. Unless you already know the name of the show you want in Norwegian.

Well, that's the thing, right? I don't know of any local anime fansites, and localized series titles have over the past two decades become exceptionally rare, and these facts are symptomatic of why I'm asking this question in the first place.

I gotcha, I’ve got nothing but time for the next day, so I’ll keep looking for ya since my original thoughts didn’t help.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

A side note is that I actually like coming up with fake localized names and testing people on if they can recognize what I'm referring to, it's good fun

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

That does sound fun! Any favorites you’ve come up with?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I'll share them in a new thread tomorrow

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago

Hell yeah, looking forwards to learning some stuff (and hopefully have some useful links RE above)

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Haven't heard of the first haven't tried the second to my knowledge

Subscene is a site dedicated to typing the thing you’re going to watch, filtering by language, and downloading the five top rated because at least half are poorly synced. Idk how much anime stuff they have, but you can get subs in nearly any language for nearly any movie or show.

Nyaa might be a solid bet, lots of language diverse anime subbing and dubbing there.

Well, I can look into it more in the morning, thanks.

I kept looking a bit and somebody on reddit said tv.nrk.no has stuff. You get a better selection if VPN into norway though

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I live in Norway I don't think that's gonna be a problem

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Awesome! Sorry for assuming

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago

Yeah, that's the problem with my existence, I always feel like (and am often proven correct that) people will assume that I am some foreigner learning Norwegian as a second language for heritage reasons, or maybe a first-generation immigrant, when in fact Norwegian is one of my native languages. It's basically just a combo of autism stuff and having my only living parent be a US-born immigrant that has resulted in my Norwegian lagging significantly behind my peers, and that's given me a bit of a language complex. Even when I meet people in person they'll remark on my accent, and subtly doubt that I was really born here, it's honestly humiliating and I want to do something about it.

I was going to share an effortpost about this stuff but I can't find the right words for it even after like three drafts
