May I point you at the roughly contemporary JVC JR-S600 receiver? It manages to be ancient and yet postmodern.

I love old audio gear for its build quality, repairsbility, and the bold aesthetics of the era. It wasn't a featureless plastic box designed to be hidden in a cabinet and interacted with through an app.
