I know it's not the most original choice, but I'm sticking to my guns: One Headlight is the best driving song you could ask for.

The Golden Rule: Music taste is subjective so don't be a gatekeeping asshole. There's no "bad music", only music you like or don't like.
We Are A Community: So no racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, or spam.

Second choices:
- "Somewhere Along the Way," Dawes
- "Sedona," Houndmouth
I love that song!
I'm going to hit you with a full playlist that I put together (as a CD) several years back. Can't remember the proper placement for Death Valley Blues offhand, but it works where I have it now.
Truck Stops & Coffee Pots (YouTube)
It was all road-centric songs. But one of my favorite highway driving songs is F.N.T. by Semisonic. That guitar riff sounds like speeding.
Cake - the distance
Interstate Love Song - STP
Queens of the Stone Age - You Think I Ain't Worth A Dollar, But I Feel Like A Millionaire
Really the whole album is perfect for road trips through the desert but this is my first pick!
never got into QotSA, BUT... the stuff I've heard, I could totally see that!
This is probably their most successful album commercially, if you're interested in them at all though, I recommend ...Like Clockwork from a few years back (well 10 now, ouch).
It may be (IMO) the greatest rock album of the past 20 years. Tons of texture and nuance and some heartbreaking lyrics and vocal deliveries from Josh Homme who usually comes off as more of a party / tongue in cheek sort of fella.
actually, somehow your comment got Social Distortion in my head! lol https://lemmy.world/post/3289818
That's a great correlation honestly!
Big Black Car - Big Star
Lol, not sure this is what you were driving at, ren, but I do love it.
Not a song about cars or driving, but a perfect song to drive to on a gray autumn day:
The War On Drugs - Under The Pressure (Spotify, Tidal, YouTube, YouTube Music)
The whole Lost In The Dream album is a good driving soundtrack.
Camper Van Beethoven - Borderline song was practically designed for this...
