Dumb question but how come you dont use the iphone for playstation remote play?
I did play through Labyrinth of Galleria 1 with my phone's remote play, but its display is small and I mainly play games such as visual novels so a bigger screen of the Portal is nice. I also didn’t like various context distractions such as random robo calls in the middle of a cut scene.
How do you like the PS thing? Is it pretty responsive?
The Deck can do the same thing but also a whole lot of other shit without a PS5 connection. There's no reason that product exists especially given the high price.
It’s $200 to play remotely. I already have an attachment for my phone, but this screen is larger and it’s a full size controller. It seems to be exactly what I want.
Chiaki is awesome except that, at least on the android version, I can't use the touchpad or touchpad buttons with a dual sense controller. Which makes playing a lot of games impossible. Haven't tried it on PC but it might work better for playing games on the PS5 through my VR setup.
I did consider Asus ROG Ally and Valve’s Steam Deck, both seem like an excellent choice assuming you have an interest in other things as well, but those didn’t seem too plug-and-play with the PlayStation 5, since it’s the only system I use.
Don't listen to the haters. I'm a pc gamer and love my steam deck, but for a ps5 owner that just wants to play their ps5/4 games around their house, the Portal is a far and wide better option, and it's $200 instead of $550. It's cheaper, lighter, bigger screen, higher resolution, and the battery lasts longer. It has its purposes.
Thanks! Agreed that it has its purpose. I also fully understand people have a hard time understanding my viewpoint when they don’t share the same needs.
I just really haven't understood lemmys hate boner for the portal. Like so many people seem to hate that this thing that no one is forced to buy even exists, just because you can use other things that are less purpose built to stream a ps5 game to. Like, one guy was saying you should just use a cell phone and controller that hold it. That's such a dumb idea. You want to buy a $100 phone gaming controller (for a good one) and degrade your cellphone battery and have a smaller screen instead of just paying another $100 for a Portal? Why do that to yourself.
Yeah, fair enough, and good points! I also hope I can manage with the same phone until it stops receiving new updates, so not super thrilled to buy a new mobile phone just for that either, doesn’t make sense to me at all.
As a lover and owner of both decks (sold the lcd one), I disagree with you.
It's half the price of the cheapest deck and if you're a console gamer that owns a ps5, there's several other reasons for this to exist.
Saves between ps5 and this, for one. Also, playing your ps5 game on the shitter, in bed, or while next to your spouse while watching TV, or for a family member to play their ps5 game in their room or anywhere else while another family member is using the TV. It's also lighter, plays for 7 hours on a charge, regardless of graphic intensity which is compared to 2 hours on an SD OLED for demanding games, it has a bigger screen, and it's a higher resolution.
I'm primarily a pc gamer and have been for decades, so for me the SD is an absolute choice. But for someone with a PS5 who wants a hand system to play ps5 and ps4 games on around the house when they aren't in front of the TV? The portal is a great option. It's a 1080p 8" screen and battery sitting between an $80 ps5 controller.
You also don't even want to buy the cheap steamdeck that's $400. It's lcd and only 256GB, so you're looking at at least having to buy the $550 one with the OLED screen and 512GB space. So really you're talking about having to spend nearly triple the price to get a steam deck, and if you just want to play your ps5 around the house, that's a really dumb choice.
I play a lot of games that aren’t as sensitive to input latency, games such as Disgaea, Persona, and various visual novels. So it works great for my purposes. I haven’t tried it outside my home network yet, though.
