Funny enough, they offered me the tote from the comic to sign up for their subscription.

Thank you, very interesting.

The show is heavily advertised on the subway.

Yeah, do you know anyone that’s been? I sure don’t.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 months ago

Me neither.

It's advertised as something like a Chinese version Cirque de Soleil, but it's actually propaganda from a far-right cult that claims they're being persecuted because people just won't stop being gay, or listening to women, or believing in evolution or using modern medicine... Not even joking.

How does airdrop works? Can you not, keep it off and only activate it when you actually need it? I've never in my life wanted to receive a random file from a random anonymous stranger in public (grindr not withstanding).

[–] [email protected] 13 points 7 months ago

Maybe people keep it on just in case a grindr opportunity pops up in the wild

It used to be that you could leave airdrop on for everyone at all times.

Then China wanted to crack down on dissidents so Apple changed it to “Everyone… but one for 15 minutes”. Apparently it then made it’s way to ALL iPhones so now you can’t have any airdrop fun anymore.

That doesn't sound like fun it sounds like massive privacy violation and surveillance tool.

That's why I asked. If it can be turned off, why wouldn't you?

Because I liked playing the random meme airdrop game. 99% of the time being in the receiving end.

On a more serious note, it allows people to freely transfer information between each other in a method that can’t be controlled by a firewall / government / etc.

Nothing as tragic as censoring the word "penis" in your own comic. What goes through the mind of someone happy to discuss the concept of an unsolicited dick pic but worried about what typing the letter e implies?

Dunno. This piece appeared on the McSweeney's website, which is not owned by the authors of the comic. I don't know if they have some kind of content policy though.

Beware the dreaded punis!

[–] [email protected] 6 points 7 months ago

This would be like, one trip, one transfer during rush hour from, say, lower Manhattan to queens. Or a Friday night. That’d work too.

Penis is not even a curse word, why would they censor it? It's just the name for the dangling thing in some pants. Wh*t th* fuck?
