I just don't want to bother anyone.

Most people don't want to help anymore either. 30 degrees (-1c) outside and I saw a guy stuck in the parking lot near Walmart, week before Christmas. I pull over and he asks if I could jump his battery to get him going. I had a battery jump in the back so I didn't even have to raise my hood, took ~1 minute of my time. He was a young man who told me he had been stuck there for 2 hours. There are hundreds of fn cars coming and going from Walmart and such. Not a single fuck was given because everyone is afraid of everyone. They think it could be a trap before thinking he is trapped.

Well, I wouldn't even know what to do and with everyone having a mobile phone I just assume they can call for professional assistance.

Positive to positive(red), negative to negative(black). Never touch the jumper cables together, the amperage will do more than wake you up. Let the car run for a few seconds, then start the other car. If it were the battery it should pull from the non dead battery and start up. Then unplug both without allowing them to touch still.. and your good.

If the car is manual you can jump it without needing another car or cables. Get the car rolling by pushing it or get yourself on a hill rolling in neutral, clutch in and throw yourself straight into second gear while giving it gas, it will get the engine jumped and running.

In both scenarios let the car run for a little bit so the alternator can charge the battery back up (assuming you just left the lights on and it died). If the battery is actually dead you can stop by an auto store and they will test it for free.

If I could choose I'd exclusively get dismantable furniture so that I can move it myself for the same reason.

I carried a (admittedly light) couch up to my 3rd floor condo on my back so I get it.

Least painful option for sure.

If I had a friend, I would ask them, but here we are.

The number of times I have been in that situation is to damn high. Even if I do have a friend around it will usually be someone who can't pick up the other side of the coach somehow. So then you throw the whole damn thing on your back and carry it up/down the apartment stairs and wonder why it was so much harder than it was a few years earlier. "I need to be able to afford movers next time" you think... As you move someplace with unaffordable rent and your best friend debt riding in back seat.

I am in this photo and I don't like it.

First off, how dare you?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 9 months ago

I do stuff like this and make shit way harder on myself than it has to be on purpose, even when I have options. But it's some weird self-improvment thing where I want to make sure I can reliably do things on my own for the times I need to.

You're helping by being a spotter in case I actually do need help. I can carry one measly fridge/freezer combo up the stairs by myself, trust.

May I please admit to the metric fuck ton of awkward things I’ve transported by rolling them on a skateboard?

Skaters are not only good at balancing after a few years practice, but they come with their own handy miniature moving van accessory.
