Here the Lemmy.World owner talks about all of this: https://lemmy.world/post/2923697

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Is there any way to link to posts contextually so that it’s viewed in the context of the readers instance instead of just hyperlinked to the source instance?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Sync automatically opens it in your instance it seems.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Yep. There's support for this in ActivityPub, but only Sync and one bot actually implements it... the official webui and none of the other apps support link translation yet

we use !community@instance

but idk if that works for posts, let me try

edit- doesn't work, it seems

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I think there are people making scripts for that but I don't use it. You have to put the link text in your instance search.

This is why we need to move more communities off lemmy.world. Resilience in decentralization

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It's too bad Lemmy communities have to be homed on a single instance. It'd be more resilient if we could comment and vote from other instances.

im here for all of it

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I'm surfing & posting here from my little Lemmy instance :-)

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It's a pain in the hole having to register on other instances to vote and save posts though

[–] [email protected] 42 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You can save and vote from any instance. That is the point of the fediverse. You can have an account on lemmy.ml and interact with communities on lemmy.world.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Right, but then I have a separate set of saved posts and comments on every account. I'd have to try and remember which account I saved something under. It's a minor pain, but a pain nonetheless.

[–] [email protected] 44 points 1 year ago

No you don't. As chris said, you can use the same account. I'm saying move communities off .world, not accounts. That way when it goes down, it doesn't hurt people on other instances as much (apart from being deprived of your luscious opinions for a few hours).

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Can you even migrate accounts yet? Or do you just have to set up a new one and import all your communities manually?

There's also https://github.com/CMahaff/lasim which I have used in the past, it works nicely.

Am... I the only one who literally wouldn't even notice lemmy.world going down.... if it were not for the posts they are making, regarding their downtime?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

Nah, same here. If anything, the mild drama has brought even more interactive content to my feed. Like a type of a Streisand phenom or something; it's kinda having the opposite effect for me.

Definitely a lot of wasted energy by pissy people, who get satisfaction from punching air. They could certainly channel it to something better for everyone... but I'm enjoying myself regardless. The only person who can waste your time is yourself, so I hope whoever's being bitchy is at least getting something out of it... cause it looks about as productive as a tantrum to me, and just as funny to watch.

Whoever's being all butt-hurt out there... I'm laughing at you, not with you. And if you're that mad, maybe take your energy and use it to help someone offline. Nobody here will care in a little bit anyway.

Actually, I'ma donate lemme.world a fiver just to drive home my point. Barbara Streisand or some shit lol

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Same, but maybe my timezone (GMT +8) would play a role in my case

[–] [email protected] 27 points 1 year ago (4 children)

Thing is, these terrorists aren't trying to destroy the fediverse, they are trying to retaliate specifically against lemmy.world

[–] [email protected] 36 points 1 year ago (14 children)

How petty do you have to be to hold a grudge towards a specific Lemmy instance? It's like they're children who got banned from their favorite Minecraft server.

Idk if I'd go so far as saying they're terrorists, they aren't using violence. But the vibe and dedication makes me think it's the same person that got mad that they couldn't run every community on the instance or some shit and then proceeded to spam create hundreds of communities

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Let's not call them terrorists lol. It's prolly just some kids

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 year ago

Me, on Kbin: "There was a DDOS?"

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Why are people DDOSing Lemmy? Reddit employes?

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 year ago

Nah, their employees are vacating the platform too. It's just spez being spez. Don't be like spez, everybody hates spez. Fuck spez.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Spez's living room laptop

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 year ago

Donate a dollar to Lemmy org, lemmy.world, and your own instance. Raise awareness and funds, so the DDoS attackers can feel good about themselves for something besides just bitching behind a curtain

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

What's the final boss on Lemmy.world, I wonder? I didn't notice a thing. Been using the Shork and the Beehaw.
