American license plates are nuts. Why do you need to put month stickers and whatever on them?

That's the month you originally registered the car. Registration is valid for a year, and you change the year sticker, not the month sticker, when you renew.
Yes. Same thing in Alberta, except we no longer use stickers.
@breadsmasher @steinbring The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has attempted to eliminate stickers multiple times as they are unnecessary. All law enforcement agencies in the state have mobile data terminals and can look up vehicle registration while mobile. Unfortunately the police lobby objected as the absence of a sticker, or a sticker in the wrong place is a convenient pretext for a stop.
@breadsmasher @steinbring This is no different, this EV sticker is unnecessary, and offers no value to first responders. The license plate and sticker will be impossible to see/read in most fire situations anyway. This is just another pretext to harass drivers.
Not all states use month stickers, in my state the month of renewal is on the plate just like the plate ID (abc-123) and the only sticker is the year, my state allows buying a two year sticker though which I just did yesterday.
Here the month is based on the first digit of your last name.
Thanks. Heard that this was happening, but the details then weren't clear on where or if the front also gets one. This clears it up.
This is gonna be wild for folks who like to put their new year sticker in any open spot instead of removing the old year one before putting on the new one.
