Rings indicate a tree needs to lose weight?
Showerthoughts
A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The best ones are thoughts that many people can relate to and they find something funny or interesting in regular stuff.

Rings indicate a stretchy belt
In the pic it looks like they're loosening the belt and not tightening
No, but rings indicate OP's mom lost weight
I had to add new holes onto my belt because it was getting too stretched out and slack.
Needing a new belt going the other direction felt like a huge win.
I just keep adding holes to my belt
Me too. On the inside thankfully. I did get a tad large there for a bit.
What method did you use to get to need new holes when most of the world is going in the other direction?
it's just calories in vs calories out. A better diet paired with more exercise.
Get an idea of how many calories you burn in a day (you can search for a BMR calculator to give you a ballpark), and eat less than that. I started going on runs, and eating a slightly healthier diet.
I have tried about every diet and that one didn't work at all for me. After all the common ones I did Atkins for a few months to great success, but couldn't keep it up. Then the internet renamed Atkins induction to keto and I tried that for about six months a few times and always failed and put on all I lost.
Then from low carb I found zerocarb and that was the first easy diet. Now zerocarb is called carnivore and I'm still on it, slowly becoming thinner
All diets offer the same thing: less calories in than you burn.
There's no secret sauce here...it's just about finding ways you can change your lifestyle to reduce calories in.
Exercise is good for you for many reasons, but you can't outrun the spoon. The effort required to burn 1000 calories is significantly higher than the effort required to not eat the 1000 calories.
The thing that worked for me was tracking my calories every day. Didn't aim to change what I ate...but when I saw the realities of the calories rich food I was eating I made simple choices to switch it out for low calories. Fibre and Protein are your friend in this fight.
All diets do ensure you eat no more than you need. Some of us can't just eat less, and need to switch to the two macro nutrients that we have limits on. You can overeat protein, but it's hard and doesn't taste good after you've had enough, and it will be balanced by your eating less the next day. You simply can't eat more fat than you need, it will make you sick if you overeat by a lot, but overeat fat at all and you will excrete the excess
There is no limit but the size of your stomach and the hours in the day for carbohydrates
So it's easy to do no more calories than you need on low carb
I think you've got some things twisted here, you certainly can eat more than you burn.
For example my maintenance calorie level is around 1400 a day. I work a sedentary job and do moderate exercise 5 times a week. The low amount of calories I need to maintain my weight was surprising - I always went by the RDA of 2-2.5k - no surprise I was slowly gaining weight over the years.
I can easily blow past 1400 without even thinking about it. I drink about 500 cals of milk a day alone. No carbs in that yet I'm already 1/3 of my limit and I've not even had that 1000cal tub of ice cream.
Protein is harder to overeat because it's lower calorie per gram and its harder to digest so we feel fuller for longer.
If cutting out carbs works for you then crack on! It's all about just finding the diet that works for you because trying to do something too painful will unlikely result in meaningful lifelong changes.
If you eat less calories than you burn, you will lose weight. That's just science - that works universally. I don't really think these fad diets are a good way to view health. There's a lot more to a healthy diet than just losing weight - your body needs carbohydrates, in fact carbs should be your primary source of calories and foregoing all carbs isn't a healthy way to lose weight.
Just string two belts together like you do with zip ties when one isn't long enough.
I'm talking about smaller belts. I was asking for how they lost weight. I only know of one diet that works
This is why I’ve switched to suspenders
My dad wore suspenders to work for years. I'm beginning to understand why. I get tired of having to constantly readjust my pants. And that's with a belt.
This is why I switched to ratchet straps
I have been thinking of switching. Suspenders make way more sense. With a belt, my pants still fall down unless I have the belt so tight it cuts off circulation. It's just cinching the pants around my waist and movement (such as going from standing to sitting and vice versa) can cause them to slip. But suspenders literally hold them up from your shoulders. Ain't no way they'll slip.
Tighter an tighter
After two days I finally get that you're not talking about non existent rings around the belt holes but are talking about the darker buckle lines on the belt that are inbetween the belt holes.
