WOOOOOOOO!

My wife just tested positive for COVID the second time this year and we are sooo mad. We are so sick of other people and their total disregard for each other. Even tho we don't know for sure where she got it, we were at a small gathering last weekend where someone showed up sick without any sort of warning. They said it's not COVID and something about how its just their sinuses, you know, the normal brushing off of obvious symptoms.

Then on Monday I had to go to the office for a meeting and overheard 2 different people saying they weren't feeling great... They both ended up going home and neither of them showed up the next day, but a third person did show up the next day, also complaining about being sick... I really just don't understand why!

My wife and I do everything we cant to be safe; we wear masks in public, we make our concerns known, we have canceled and changed plan in order to keep in line with our concerns and comfort.

Why do people insist on going to work or to gatherings when they can admit they are sick?

Why does nobody give a shit about anyone around them?

I hate people, I really do, but I still don't go into social situations while sick and if I had to I would wear a fucking mask. It's that fucking simple, yet no one has the common courtesy to not bring their fucking communicable disease into public.

Fuck people.

FUCK

UPDATE: Just got an email from one of my colleagues who just tested positive for COVID. He was in the office Monday, complaining about feeling sick, but waited 4 days to test because “he didn’t even think about COVID until someone else mentioned it.” Mind you, this person sees me with a mask on EVERY DAY, but didn’t think about COVID…

I really really hate people and am thinking about leaning into the hermit life. Just me, my partner, and our cats; everyone else can fuck off.

Might want to start using nasal sprays like covixyl, xclear (xylitol), or betadine. There's not a lot of studies out there, but what studies have been done show a 60-80% effectiveness in stopping the virus. They all basically coat your nasal passage with a protective layer to stop the virus. Probably won't stop it if you are in a small room with someone shedding virus for a long time, but it should help your odds.

Also DIY fit test your mask if you haven't:

And bring a HEPA air purifier if you're going to someone else's home.

If you don't have access to nasal sprays or aren't comfortable with the quality of the evidence, you can also do a saline rinse after potential exposures to mechanically remove virions from your nasal passages.

Depends on what sort of work it is, but some people just can't afford to miss time at work due to paltry worker protections (not enough sick hours or PTO fuckery).

This was me, actually. It wasn't Covid, thank god, but I wasn't able to do over 3 days of sick days without a Doctors note and things are already tight. Thankfully I at least masked up, kept some space on people, and had 10 hours paid vacation.

Yeah, obviously that is a very real situation, but to add context, both my wife and I work for places that allow and promote remote work in these situations. My boss says it constantly that anyone who is feeling sick doesn't need to think twice about it.

You are correct tho, not everyone has that luxury, but the people who have no other option can still wear a mask.

We learned absolutely nothing over the past 4 years, it's so disheartening.

My wife caught it the first time last week. And holy fuck does this shit suck. Sorry you're going through this; sorry we are too.

All fucked up, barely testing negative, chock full of fucked up symptoms - she literally just left for work because.... BECAUSE.

Fuck this system.

Are you swabbing your throat (at least 30 minutes after eating)? Nose rapid tests haven't been effective since before Omicron

Yeah. Not going out and spreading shit around when you're noticeably sick and symptomatic is the fucking absolute bare minimum and I swear to god people are worse about it now than pre-covid because they have the "well I rapid tested once and it's not covid so I'm fine" excuse now.

I'm not proud of how long I held out on masking and stuff, but I'm a household of one and I WFH, so when I'm at all sick at least I can just be a hermit and not spread shit to anyone, and I have a stockpile of masks if I absolutely have to go someplace. this winter's covid wave has me wanting to mask again but it feels pointless when historically I've almost exclusively been the one getting sick after family gatherings, not the one spreading it.

It took 3 days into symptoms for a positive rapid this time around. Last time I was asymptomatic for 2 days while testing positive. The key is consistent testing for a few days while you are exhibiting symptoms. However, most people just wanna be able to prove it’s fine as quick as possible.
