I have tried alot of launchers but never really settled on one that meets all my needs. I have also read all the threads on reddit about FOSS launchers.

My preferences:

  • Multiple pages
  • Widgets on home screen
  • search function; app/contacts/ddg

The closest one yet is NeoLauncher, but the search function is not quite there I reckon.

Any suggestions?

How important is having app icons and pages for you? If its something you're willing to compromise with then I would suggest mLauncher. Its very minimal but it's almost entirely searched based. I wasn't too keen on the idea at first but I have gotten used to it and it feels very fast and efficient overall.

I tried it now. I want the option of having widgets on my homescreen, I did not see that option. And from my point of view, the search functionality is not anywhere near Kvaesitso or Kisslauncher.

I have tried it but it has no second page and no widgets on the home screen without a swipe, can you tell me how you did these two?

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I am not sure what you mean by second page, but widgets can be added in home screen when toggle of "fill the entire screen height" from settings under clocks section.

I use Neo launcher and then have KISS launcher for searching.

How do you use two launchers at the same time?

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

KISS can be set as the default assist app, so it pops up instead of Google Assistant.

This. It isn't the same as having search built nativly into the launcher, but I'm not using any other assist app and therefor that usage slot is open.

Stupid question, but how would I also get the possibility to receive shortcuts from an app?Letas say a contact in Signal?

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

I don't think Android lets an app handle shortcuts that way unless it's set as the default launcher. Sesame Shortcuts (which is closed source) used to work around that by working with launcher developers and making some kind of bridge between the two.

Neo Launcher, working for me. Try playing with these options

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Sadly its buggy for me. The search function just searches for either web or apps. I have fiddled around with everything.

I currently use Square Home. Its the Windows Phone / W8 Metro UI. I have widgets, search, and multiple pages.

I can't find any source code for that through a quick search. Please note that this is a community for free and open source Android software. Many of us here don't endorse closed source software at all.

This is just a heads-up. I'm not going to remove this.

Shit didn't realize the community! My bad!

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Don't worry about it. โค๏ธ This is the Fediverse, not Reddit. I hate powermods, but a thread should at least stay somewhat on topic.

AIO launcher is simple and clean and functional. Try it: https://aiolauncher.app/

I don't know...ask maintainer.

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

you're the one who posted it in the FOSS community as a recommendation.

I missed the question that you were looking for a foss. And I'm not the one posting " it". You've probably missed something yourself, especially if English is not my language.

I can only find a GitHub page for translations for Ruthless Launcher. Is it actually FOSS? Please note that this is a community for free and open source Android software.
