Big brain tech dude got yet another clueless take over at HackerNews etc? Here's the place to vent. Orange site, VC foolishness, all welcome.

reposting here for better visibility (let me know if there’s a better way to do this now that we’re federated): the owners of hachyderm.io just started a generative AI for gaming project, and it looks like donations to them will likely end up going to that

as someone who really likes co-ops as a weapon against capitalism, it really pisses me off when assholes use the term because they’re worried that folks are wise to DAOs being a grift

so far there’s some extremely crypto-reminiscent damage control happening in the linked thread, right down to folks being redirected to their discord so concerns can be silenced (they own a damn mastodon instance) and having the most toxic parts of their community come to the thread to run hostile PR

Pushing people towards a Discord rather than a more public-facing source of information is obnoxious and suspicious even outside of cryptocurrency/AI grift scenarios. If nothing else, it sets off my "STOP USING DISCORD AS A FORUM REPLACEMENT" inclinations.

IANAL, but isn't this a bit deceptive? Can people ask for their money back?
