An exciting map in a forest clearing, this map was excellent fun to run in my campaign. With ample opportunities for cover, positioning becomes key. Impactful choices and quest hooks abound, this map is begging to be used. Some possibilities are below, including roughly how I used it in my campaign.
Scenario- Escape: The antagonist has gained the help of a powerful wizard who is able to teleport them to the players. perhaps they had a tracking device on them, or a mole, or were seen? Do the players flee or fight? if the antagonist must retreat, do the players give chase through the portal?
Scenario- Ambush: The party comes across a clearing inhabited by a sect of the ghostwise clan. Do they attack, attempt to talk, or sneak away. Vice versa: the players find this clearing, and are attacked by those waiting in ambush!
The statue: depicting an old general and imbued with his spirit, taking a piece of the statue connects yourself closer to its memories - but be warned, if you lose the piece, you lose a part of yourself as well...
Scenario- Friendly Faces: a group of traveling merchants is corralled in this clearing - or friendly ghostwise halflings living on platforms up in the trees - or an old friend NPC traveling on the road - or admiring adventurers following in the parties footsteps. Can they be trusted? Will the party be attacked at night by owlbears, wolves, or enemies of the night?
I roughly used this in my campaign as part of their main quest. They tracked down pacifist ghostwise halflings who rode flying giant owlbears and lived in the trees, became friendly with them, gained the item and information the sought. Then the bad guy came through the green portal and they fought him and his minions, all the while sewing up a net to let a giant owlbear fly them all away to safety. they killed the main guy but were close to all dying, so left his other companions alive, along with any loot.
