Crazy to think he was murdered.

Edit: the president, not the dog.

[–] [email protected] 84 points 1 year ago (2 children)

The reason is even crazier

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assassination_of_Shinzo_Abe

Tl;dr the killer held a grudge against this religion (cult) which Abe helped spread in Japan. His mother had given all of the family's money to them and basically ruined the entire family's lives.

[–] [email protected] 52 points 1 year ago (2 children)

And succesfully using a makeshift gun at a rare occasion of Abe visiting his town. The whole story reeks of wtf moments. Reddit was mad when it started to uncover.

[–] [email protected] 25 points 1 year ago (1 children)

As an American I both respect and fear that man's ability to redneck engineer a working gun and kill a president

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

Surprisingly enough, makeshift guns are plentiful and incredibly ingenious. Some are even made with completely out of the box thinking.

I've seen guns made from these, steel pipes turned into single shot rifles and even muzzle loaders.

It wasn't mad as very angry. It was overly enthusiastic about sharing the first details of this hit and speculating about what the murderer's motives were, about the gun he made (and Japan is mostly gun-free since ww2), about Abe's links to moonies, about moonies, what are they compared to scientology and other cults. Threads exploded with comments. And one of the point that made many arguments by itself: was the killer right or not.

Whats even 🤪 is that Japan actually has a very strong history of reposinding to presidential killers goals

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That's quite impressive for a nation that doesn't have a President.

(The Emperor is the Head of State. The government is led by the Prime Minister.)

I think they were implying that Japan supported either John Wilkes Booth, or Lee Harvey Oswald? I can't imagine they'd support the attempt of John Hinkley Jr. or John Flammang Schrank. The dudes didn't finish the job.

Why does every presidential assassin have 3 names?

Why does every presidential assassin have 3 names?

To avoid someone else facing repercussions for the crime, no matter how unlikely that there's gonna be someone named Lee John Oswald, there might be.

(You could argue that since Oswald is dead, this shouldn't be a problem, but that's where the logic comes from)

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Lee John Oswald at the DMV a year later trying to renew his license.

LJO - I assure you I'm not dead.

DMV Worker - That's not what the system says. It also days you shot President Kennedy. If you wanted a license you shouldn't have done that.

LJO - That wasn't me. That was Lee HARVEY Oswald.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

In this case, the assassin had a pretty good point and the people took it seriously. Turns out a lot of people had been scammed by said cult.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Thank you for the edit, because I was about to commit a hate crime.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah the president can go fuck himself I guess.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (3 children)

Well yea he was assassinated for a very good reason, there's a reason his approval ratings TANKED after people found out why the guy killed him.

And then she went on to become a brand "ambassador" for one of the shadiest oil companies on the planet. Truly living the dream.

It's Russia, shady AF companies are the only kind they have. If you're not owned by the Russian Mafia and/or a sociopathic silovik, it's only a matter of time until you're sold out or the victim of a hostile takeover.

The Akita (dog) Museum in Akita Prefecture has some posters and such of her around.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 1 year ago

I'm glad she got the dog, but an Akita as a first dog wouldn't be my suggestion.

Akita is like advanced-level dog.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The question is: What has the dog done to achieve VIP status?

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I bet he'd kick an ass or two.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

THAT'S what Brian Boitano'd do!

Dude's legit. He wanders around Del Mar just having fun for the most part. He also tells any kid that's giving their parents crap about pads and a helmet, "Hey there, I'm Tony Hawk, and I have broken every bone in my body while wearing the pads and helmet. I know they don't look cool, but you know what's even less cool? Brain damage." It gets through to most of them, though some of them legit don't know who he is these days.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

For me, definitely Surya Bonaly. Guess my answer shows my age, lol.

I remember watching the 98 Winter Olympics and screaming in awe when she landed with a single blade after he backflip.

Absolutely phenomenal.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Hey I was like 12 when Kerrigan kneecapped her. I'm lucky I remember her name at all, lol.

Oh and don't take it personally. I just don't care for TV or Movies

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

Katerina Witt. Because of one performance I saw during my especially formative years.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Sasha Cohen. Sadly it never quite all came together for her, but she was so elegant on ice.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago

Didn't he play Borat?

Imagine trying to tell this child a single thing for the rest of her life

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

In my experience with teenagers and dogs there is no way she would be walking it. There will be a disgruntled parent standing in a park waiting to clean up a presidentially ordained victory shit.
