“The Stewards note that if they had the authority to grant a derogation in what they consider in this case to be mitigating, unusual and unfortunate circumstances, they would have done so, however the regulations do not allow such action.”

Hopefully the FIA can step in and override this by tomorrow, seems like everyone would be on board

Yeah this isn't a wonderful look for the sport. Other drivers, team strategy, etc., are part of the hazards. Shit tracks, however, shouldn't be.

The damage was a result of poor track inspection and quality. Ferarri and Carlos should not pay the price for repairing the damage DIRECTLY caused by the track.

The FIA can change the regulations sure. But retroactively applying them would be another issue. Without thinking about the can of worms such a rule change would bring.

Just make an exception. Have the teams weigh in. rigid rules break the sport.

Don't remember any calls for Haas or Williams getting an exception.

It's also not as simple as granting an exception and washing your hands. Granting an exception creates a precedent. Especially as those rigid rules are what makes this a sport.

Well russell had far less damage in 2019 so he did not get a penalty. No expectation needed in that case.

There should be a precendent! If something comes off the track and damages a car through no fault of the team, they should be able to repair. Why penalize the driver for an environmental condition.

A drain cover famously destroyed Ricciardo's car a few years ago. Not sure what they did back then

Drain cover incidents are nothing new (sadly) but history seems to fall to two categories: incidents with not as much damaged and requiring no restricted parts, or ones that happened during the race with no opportunities for repair anyway.

When was this. I seem to have forgotten this incident

[-] [email protected] 12 points 10 months ago

Wow, that's just insane.

Common sense ain’t so fucking common these days. Rules is rules is a shit response.

[-] [email protected] 4 points 10 months ago

A rule is a rule and

[-] [email protected] 2 points 10 months ago

Was it really necessary to change the engine though?

[-] [email protected] 2 points 10 months ago

@Summzashi @formula1 Pretty sure it was, but I'm not a mechanic

[-] [email protected] 2 points 10 months ago

That is complete insanity. Vegas was already getting enough heat, this is just makes it so much worse
