Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

The rules are simple:

The post can be a single image, an image gallery, or a link to a specific comic hosted on another site (the author's website, for instance).
The comic must be a complete story.
If it is an external link, it must be to a specific story, not to the root of the site.
You may post comics from others or your own.
If you are posting a comic of your own, a maximum of one per week is allowed (I know, your comics are great, but this rule helps avoid spam).
The comic can be in any language, but if it's not in English, OP must include an English translation in the post's 'body' field (note: you don't need to select a specific language when posting a comic).
Politeness.
Adult content is not allowed. This community aims to be fun for people of all ages.

I might have felt the punchline of this comic more than any other, and I've been reading Dinosaur Comics for MANY years now (lemmy.world)

Alt text (which is actually, and always has been, the title text but we all just call it the alt text: "wipe questions about old star trek episodes from MY mind and there simply wouldn't be anything left, and i would be as blank as Uhura was when her memory was wiped by Nomad, the space probe created by the collision of an Earth probe designed to seek out new life forms, and Tan Ru, an alien probe programmed to secure and sterilize soil samples from other planets, and their two programs merged and create a probe who believed its purpose was to seek out and steralize imperfect life forms and which then mistook Captain James Kirk as Jackson Roykirk, its creator!"

I've stopped even seeing that - if I were describing it to someone who'd never seen the comic I don't know if I'd remember to mention it.

This makes sense if you subscribe to the thought that everyone dies in the transporter, but they recreate the person like the food on board and upload their consciousness into the newly created meat sack.

They could upload a backup into Uhura, and she would be good as new.

Wait, why did it take a week? Why do they have backups?!? 😳

You don't need to upload anything. An exact copy would already be conscious.

I've got two of Ryan North's books, "Romeo and/or Juliet" and "To Be or Not to Be" on my bookshelf, but until seeing a Dinosaur Comic again just now, I entirely forgot the connection.

Coincidentally i happened to see this episode last night, and it is basically as described in the comic, and i had the exact same problem with this plot.
