So far I'm on my longest run yet, I've been playing it safe, and avoiding fights as much as I can.

Currently I have a base in Rosewood, in one of the houses behind the fire station. It's all boarded up, and I've build up a good supply of canned food, tools and all sorts of guns.

I also have my generator ready to go for when the power goes. Water has already stopped running, I have two water coolers in my base, about 20 water bottles, and 5 rain collector crates outside. I started working on building a little shack to get clean water, but need to level up carpentry to level 6 in order to build stairs and finish the roof.

But what should I be focusing on next? I haven't done any metalworking yet. Haven't started with farming, and have no way of securing meat once my supply runs out.

I do have a nice firetruck, with 4 full canisters of gas. Ideally I want to build up some more gas, but have been struggling to find more canisters.

Update; ended up dying on day 20, after being surrounded by zombies in my truck, and for some reason my engine just kept dying. My next two characters both died within hours. Current character is doing well, made it back to my base, found a new car and was able to recover some supplies from my previous character.

Taking it slow again, reading all books and making sure my farm is doing well. Wanted to try fishing next, but have yet to find the supplies.

I would secure the gas station with another genny and log walls.

Maybe start collecting VHS tapes and books, start on farming and trapping so you get a good supply of cabbages and rabbit meat come winter.

There's a fricking winter?? Good point on the gas station, I'll work on securing that next.

Been reading up on farming and trapping, will need to get all the supplies first to move forward with that.

Depending on your sandbox settings, winter could be pretty hard. Snow doesn't count as water in regards to water collectors, so... Grab a couple more coolers for your farms. Also, make sure you secure some clothes and extra weapons. Couple extra cars wouldn't hurt.

Basically, until temps drop to 0 (get a radio, emergency broadcast channel will keep you updated), you're a hoarder. Come winter, hope you got all you need and work on learning skills, increasing your strength and keeping your base safe. And remember: it isn't starvation that will kill you, it's carelessness. There is always a zombie behind that door.

I'm pretty sure I selected the "apocalypse" option, so I'm sure it's going to be brutal. I'll need to explore the school area again to find all the books for farming and trapping. And set up more water collecting barrels, just in case.

I've already restarted like 20 times because I kept dying in the first few days. So definitely focused on more stealth and securing my base.

Don't worry, that doesn't change, lol. Got 200h or so and just today I lost two characters who were well on their way to long term survival because I overestimated my chances. Finally got one to a good place by slowing down and clearing house by house.

Ok update; I finally finished my little shack, and added 3 crates for collecting rain water. Finally found a propane tank to recharge my torch, and try to disassemble a sink to hook up water.

Made a couple of trips down to some farms to collect seeds, and start a little farm. Also learned the recipes for trapping, but haven't made any yet.

I also finally learned how frozen food works, I stupidly never collect those because I couldn't figure it out...

Oh and I learned how to hook up a trailer to my fire truck. So all in all a pretty good run, if I can keep surviving.

By crates you mean the square collectors? I'd advice against them. Better to grind out level 6 (or 7, can't remember) and get the barrels. Iirc they hold more than twice and cost the same resources. Remember, you can have up to 9 barrels plumbed to a single water source.

Good to see you're liking the game!

The square collectors yeah, I figured it's better to start collecting water early while I level my carpentry. I've been collecting garbage bags, so I have enough for barrels. Read about the 3x3 grid with the sink in the middle, so that's how I have it set up now.

You could go around a residential area deconstructing double beds.

I always start getting bored at this point, but if you can keep on going, I'd get a farm set up then haul arse to the next city and start fire bombing/gunning it down to establish a foothold somewhere.
