It's cloudberry season here in the Nordics, and the bounty is very much worth the time spent foraging in mosquito-infested bogs. This is a dessert traditionally enjoyed in Northern Finland, and it is one of my favourite summer foods.

I've never had a cloudberry. Do they have a unique taste or do they share similarities with other berries?

They're quite unique. They're a lot more tart and bitter than raspberries, with an after taste similar to that of some particularly tangy craft sour beers. The seeds are also larger, but the slight crunch is actually very satisfying.

The flavour is not universally loved, though, and especially children often prefer cloudberries with a heaping of sugar.

I wonder if I could get cloudberries in the US, I'd love to try!

Pretty unique. I think they are the best berries there is.

Very unique taste, but mild, in the good sense, balanced

Leipajuusto! I've never had it with cloudberries but definitely one of my favorite cheeses.
