Reddit totally has the potential to compete with tiktok in the mindless scrolling for a much more massive audience.

They can consolidate all their users and better track their routines and serve them more mindless addicting content which advertisers love.

I expect there will be major changes to how the app works in a few months to the point it becomes completely unrecognisable. Kind of like how musical.ly turned into tiktok overnight

[-] [email protected] 14 points 1 year ago

It is, but also federating is a core-er concept of Lemmy

[-] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

The bots can have Reddit. I'm happy here

Hope their advertisers are happy serving to bots

There's that very helpful post on how beehaw defederating affects us

If my understanding from that is correct, then all the communities, posts, comments, which lemmy.world or any other servers users have subbed/interacted with are all cloned over or lemmy.world or the respective servers.

So if beehaw shuts down, their data will live on the other servers until they shut down themselves or purge the data for some reason.

Although this would only be useful for archival purposes and not useful to interact with any of the old posts, as any further changes would not be shared across the remaining servers.

While googling smol cats, I stumbled upon this poll on the subreddit.

Thought I'd post this here because the blackout supporters are less likely to have seen it.

Hate having to link to reddit here but we should let them know we support further blackout!

Just another example of how billionaires become billionaires

This is why they need to link an alternative like Lemmy and encourage to share it around.

Reddit doesn't disallow mods from posting "Join us on Discord" and this will create a slow and steady move to a new platform.

Just about anyone commenting on a subreddit is aware of a mod's authority and powertrips. It's not hard to grasp that lemmy is moderated as well.
