One does not prepare for Tsunkatse. One only endures it.

They somehow made a meta episode about enduring pain that requires enduring pain to watch.

Ikea sells ZigBee blinds that connect right up to any home automation hub. Pretty cheap too, in the $100-200 range for most windows.

I'm using several. Batteries are solid. I get a good 3 months with daily opening/closing. I only wish they had solar modules you could add in, but the battery tray design makes that unlikely.

There are Somfry blind controllers with small solar panels that face outwards on the motor housing. No plug required.

There are a lot of zwave s2 locks out there. No Bluetooth at all.

128-bit AES isn't amazing, but it's more solid than bluetooth and most hardware locks.

Most locks, including deadbolts, can be picked or bumped in seconds. The physical lock is the weakest point. You can get zwave s2 smart locks with just pin pads, no physical key. That's probably the most secure option.

They may also mean "connected" in the sense of cars connected to each other. Having autonomous cars updating each other in real time to the positions and destinations would be a huge leap forward for automation, but is also a dangerous attack vector if a foreign actor poisoned that data.

It varies state by state, and even county by county. Some are directly elected, some are appointed by other elected officials.

Direct elections theoretically make sheriffs accountable to voters, but realistically almost no one cares who the sheriff is unless they directly stir up a controversy. Bad but quiet sheriffs can fester for decades.

It also causes issues with them being accountable to other elected officials, like the mayor or city council.

Directly appointing Sheriffs makes them accountable to whoever appointed them, who are in turn accountable to voters. It can lead to sheriff roles changing more often if the appointing body shifts, and can result in cronyism.

Personally I think they should be appointed, but have independent, direct oversight outside of the appointing structure.

I'm talking electorally, mainly. Pence brought the evangelicals to Trump. Walz brings the Midwest and white men to Harris. Vance brings nothing.

Silicon valley money. Hundreds of millions of dollars in dark money basically, and a lot of power brokers in tech working behind the scenes for the campaign.

He brings nothing from a "fill the gap" stance because he's exactly like Trump, but less addled by age. The pick was stupid from that perspective but if you're money hungry, he brought it.

Yes fellow human. That is what we do. Just normal people things.

Could be run through the arms if someone wanted to go hard.

It would likely make more sense to use HDMI instead with a monitor if you wanted to do this. Just discard the built in screen and the complex form factor of whatever it's connector is internally. It would ruin the aesthetic a bit but should work.

Getting roasted by the mst3k cast? That would be fantastic.
