Nothing and I mean nothing will immediately suck the momentum out of anything like having your parents involved in it.

And since Facebook is now full of older adults (Karenbook as I like to call it) and its tilting conservative, its never been more unexciting to me.

Tilting conservative? I was under the impression that it fell off the deep end years ago. Idk I quit using it but that was definitely the impression I had.
