Tbf Walter White already could have circumvented the entire show had he just sucked up his pride and accepted the money from his ~~sister in law~~ old work partners.
It was from his old partners from grey matter industries (Gretchen and Elliot) not his sister in law that he turned down money. And in the end he ended up supporting his sister inlaw and brother in-law when Hank was going through rehab

Exactly, because Kevin couldn't actually call the police (phone lines were down) and Walter's real problem was never the money :)
