Nothing to do with vanilla.
150 years ago, sure. Coca-Cola has neither coca leaves nor kola nuts these days though, and modern cream soda in the US is a vanilla-flavored amber beverage.
Fun fact, they still have coca leaves.

"Red" cream soda is a slightly different drink. I'm not sure what the flavor is supposed to be, other than, well, red. But it's different from something like IBC Classic Cream Soda, which is amber.
