The big challenge with OSM is always to find a good mobile app for it. As bad as Google's data is, their app is quite good. These days I use Organic Maps, which is pretty good, but could still be better.

quite detailed, route mapper #gps, etc. quite extensive features. maybe overkill for some. me says comparable to gMaps if not better.
it also has feature for users to contribute to #community based #OSM poi, #transit, etc. #cartography.
