So apparently wearing your grenades on your vest or shirt, hanging them off your pockets by the spoon, was popular during that time. It caused the spoon to bend over time until sometimes, every once in a while, it would snap the pin and drop a live grenade at the carrier's feet. It would be funny if even one scene from one of these movies had that happening.

I'm not like an explosives expert or anything, but that sounds like nonsense to me. My limited understanding of how grenades works tells me that even if you snapped the pin off in the way you're describing, the grenade would still be safe because the part that matters would be further down than the point at which it snapped off.
