honestly brain chips made someone other than elon musk. Imagine if you could use direct brain control for prosthetic limbs as if they were no different from organic ones, or perhaps even direct brain interface with other things, the possibilities are plentiful. would also be neat if those chips could be used to treat otherwise untreatable mental illness.

I feel similar, I think actual cyborg stuff could be life changing for so many people, but as long as its locked behind a capitalist's will, nothing good will actually come from it.

Really goes for most medical technology but most stuff isn't as bad as musk brain.

Brain chips made by someone other than Elon running Free Software at every level down to the firmware

free and open source software and open source hardware

Yes, every chip and circuit completely open and transparent with published schematics.

Having the source be open is a necessary but not sufficient condition of Free Software already, so there's no need to say "free and open source" since the Open Source movement is a capitalist plot to dilute the meaning of software freedom.

Yes. Consider Android for a concrete example. Android is an Open Source project, but to build a completely working Android phone with all the features a user would expect from that requires a significant amount of nonFree Google software. Further, Android devices can be (and in fact usually are) sold in a condition which deliberately locks away the user's ability to examine and modify the code running on them.
