We're almost through it, the light is coming back, the Holidays (TM) are over and we made it through another horribly fucked up year. On behalf of the hexbear mods we love you all and we want to keep this place being as cool as it is.

I saw a video recently debunking the claim that "you phone is listening to your conversations" that basically said "They don't need to know what you're saying IRL." they will legit use other ambient info to figure out who you are in regular contact with and start recommending products your friends like to you.

Imagine your presence on the internet as a displacement of a fluid. The algorithms can detect this "displacement of online fluid" and read the shape of it to connect accounts and profiles that have a similar "shape" or "footprint" and then tie those all together. And even if you never attached any IRL identity to that profile and only used one distinct profile to interact with for example, google, it could still be used to track you or serve ads.
