Someone must be buying them though, for Ford to put R&D into it, and the whole production process. That's not cheap.

I mean. Am F650 is commercial vehicle. You need a CDL license to drive it.
This costs more than a lot of houses, which the average American can't afford either. Most Americans would see this truck and assume the driver has too much money, and is using it to compensate for something
ford doesn't put any R&D into these, or at least not as a pickup. these are custom builds that aren't representative of what's actually being manufactured and sold by major companies. here's an equally bespoke and ridiculous f450 limo pickup.
Not much to it, the boxes are for pickup trucks, the cab is also from a pickup truck but is factory for f650s too. It's a pretty simple job to weld mounting brackets on for the bed, the wiring literally plugs in.
