Absolutely beautiful! Nice yarn bowl, too
I have a question about the yarn bowl. Does the yarn need to be rewound in order to properly use the bowl?
Not OP, but the answer is, it depends. If you're using a proper (read: slightly more expensive and probably non-acrylic) yarn ~~skein~~ hank, then yes, it needs to be wound into a ball first, then put into the bowl. The bowl keeps your ball from rolling around everywhere.
If you're using a cheaper type of center pull skein (no judgment!) then no, not really. But if you're using a center pull skein, then you don't really need the bowl. Your yarn won't roll.
I've always seen them as sorta marketed for helping control tension. Are they useful for that, or just to keep the yarn in place?
Oh, I'm not sure. I've never noticed that the bowl made a difference in my tension, but I can't afford the fancy yarn very often, so I rarely use one.
I've not rewound this yarn, I'm just taking the label off and getting the end. I use the bowl to have something to put the yarn in basically and because I think it looks nice. I'm terrible for buying hobby bits because they look nice, I have so many pins and stitch markers and things.
Like another person said though, if it was one of the fancy yarns that comes in a hank (I think they're called) I'd need to wind it first so it was a ball before being able to use it.
You're right, I meant hank in my first paragraph. Fixed!
Is it a really large yarn bowl then? I've tried using a yarn bowl and I find my yarn doesn't spin properly and just pops out or gets stuck :/
I mean it does still jump out sometimes, depends how hard I pull!
Just measured it and it's 7 inches across/diameter so fairly large yes
Oh yes that's much bigger than the one I have. Makes sense. Thank you :)
@stevestevesteve Wow that is really a gorgeous sweater!
