Nah I’m sorry I think this is bullshit. Obviously warming up with a ball can be important for performance reasons, but in terms of injury prevention they just need to move around a bit and stay warm. No one’s stopping them from doing some quick drills while they wait.
You can dislike the waiting around for other reasons if you want, but you can’t have players standing around doing nothing, and then blaming var when they get cold
Coaches and the media are all onboard the f*ck VAR train. Seems a bit dramatic.
When you look at it objectively there are certainly mistakes but short of the Liverpool incident, which they openly acknowledged was a goof, there hasn't been a large amount of completely wrong calls. Most calls are close or debatable, people would have been pissed about them even without VAR.
It's not the calls that are the problem. In the Tottenham Chelsea game the decisions were all correct in the end (pretty much). It's all the waiting around that's the problem. It ruins the flow and enjoyment of the game. I don't know anyone at this point that thinks VAR has improved the game. Fans of clubs in the Championship often tell me they prefer no VAR.
Yeah, he did say, "I was half-tempted to throw some balls out there for them to kick around". It's right there in the quote I posted.
They'll need to come up with some strategies for keeping warm while waiting an indeterminate amount of time while waiting for VAR.
So not bullshit at all then.
In American Football they use stationary bikes to keep warm.
