What happened to trick or treating. I bought big candy bars last year and only got two groups. It was so sad
When I bought my house a few years ago I was really excited to have trick or treaters. I'd been in apartments or dorms for the previous decade and grew up in a rural area so I'd never really gotten to go out myself, let alone give out candy to trick or treaters. I'd bought like 24 big candy bars and when I was putting up some decorations in my yard I got into a conversation with my neighbors about Halloween and asked them about how many trick or treaters they usually get.
They told me they thought they probably got around 200-300 the previous year. I thought they were joking but no, they were definitely not.
I planned to spend Halloween playing board games with a few friends and answering the door every so often to give out candy and see kids in cool costumes. But I bought waaaaaay more candy and it still wasn't enough.
I basically didn't sit down until we finally turned out the lights and hid for the rest of the night. There was a literal line of kids all the way down my driveway... multiple times throughout the night... Saw a couple fun costumes but a surprising amount of kids (especially around high school age) weren't wearing any costume at all. Just dragging giant garbage bags full of candy.
Even with my neighbors warning I was totally blown away. Completely outside my expectations.
I guess what I'm saying is that I wish I could share some with you.
Its coming, little buddy ๐ u should, like, put out a table or stand you dont care about and put something "neat" for people and passersby to play with or check out.
Like a zen sand garden box thing, or build a giant one and let people know to feel free to engage with it and you won't send them away or something
That's a good idea. I was so bummed because I've been looking forward to being an adult and getting to hand out the candy while my friends and I watch a movie or something. Only getting a few groups was such a bummer
I gurantee if you do something like this, you'll prolly have to like set one of those theatre rope things and have an official "closing time" to beat 'em all back
Did you like just "adult" recently (I mean via age not maturity angle)?
No I have been for awhile but I lived in apartments for a long time
Ah k. Yeah, let me know how it works out
I like this idea. I might also reccomend, among other, perhaps similar, ideas to get a similar effect, and make use in this way of they ground floor house :.
-'tiny free library.'. especially if there isn't one nearby allready. there's quite a lot of fun designs for these our there, to fit whatever style ore space. and, you could add halloween themed book to it, or any books pretty much. local bord banned a book you liked? add a copy to your local tiny library. ads 2,.. and some complementary skeleton themed bookmarks.
--a bench. nice place to rest. maybe addaa tree or aomwthing for ao. e shade of in a especially warm region. benches are fun, or can be. and yiu can paint it in oranges and bakam strops, with bays, and pkinh.
... -ooh, and you coild be like that one, well probably more than one, house that keeps up some halloween decor for longer. a way to signal to potential trick or teeter and show personality oerhaps?

Here in Australia it is rarer, and surprisingly early in the afternoon, but the only way your house gets a visit is if it is heavily decorated. Kids don't want to annoy neighbours not in on the fun. Make sure you dress up the house so they know to make a try.
