Incredibly comprehensive overview of the sales figures and other considerations that went into WOTC replacing draft and set boosters with the new play boosters.

Very interesting to read that:

Magic boosters have, in real terms (i.e., the % of the median income it would cost to purchase one), gotten much, much cheaper.

I guess I hadn't thought about how long it's actually been since the price of a (draft) booster changed.
