Scotland is so beautiful (when it's not raining), but it's such a trek for me. I have to ride the full length of England to get there, otherwise I would be there much more often.

Same, dude. I did it and Orkney last year, driving up from Devon (Hi btw, I recognise you from Reddit and know you're a Dartmoor lad too)

I took the car, which was a bit of a shame once I got there, but I really didn't fancy riding all of the M5 and M6, and more in a day to get there. My arse hurts after just an hour or two on the bike, and it took twelve hours to get into Scotland even with good traffic.

A few years ago I flew to Glasgow and hired a car, but the hire cost now has quadrupled. Bike hire seems equally as expensive.

Hi mate :D

Yeah, I'm thinking I might hire a van next time. It's two long boring days for me (don't have a mile muncher bike), mostly on the motorway to get up there. Which is high risk in itself since that's when mistakes are likely.

I recently bought a camper so I can hopefully start doing this. Drive up in the van, have a central hub to stay, then go out riding and enjoy the mountain roads without doing a ton of motorway miles just to get there.

That would be so much better. Or I need to move to Scotland. One of the two!

Yes, a van to Inverness isn't a bad idea at all.
