Eren Yaegar joins Patrick Bateman, Tony Soprano, and Walter White in the hall of fame of villain protagonists some portion of the audience didn't realize was the bad guy the entire time.

I think it's awesome, at first we're fooled to believe it's necessary for paradis, then when you re-read it, he really are a psychopath since child.
