Man, it's like they're allergic to common standards
I was under the impression that
Thread
/Matter
is not an apple thing at all but effectively a new-ish common standard?Yes, it’s basically a new standard that sits next to WiFi and Bluetooth. All three have strengths and weaknesses for different applications.
It’s almost like people just like to bitch about things.
For those wondering what was removed here: lemmy.ml had an automatic slur filter that will remove, amongst others, the word for a female dog.
You’re mad because an instance you don’t use has a slur filter you don’t like?
Whoa, was it applied? I don’t see that in my instance. Interesting.
I wasn’t calling anyone the label. I agree that use is toxic. I was using the plural verb.
But now I’m ponding how silly the distinction might be to some people. 🤔
Re: the plural … The filter also removes variants
And yea the filter can seem a bit silly. I for one don’t mind it, especially for a small open source platform like this platform … it provides some basic moderation baseline without much effort
Ignoring that the point of Matter (which is so far not happening effectively) is to be a standard shared by all the major providers for smart stuff, this doesn't mean they're removing Bluetooth.
It means Bluetooth is a dumpster fire and they're switching their stuff to use better tech.
Hard to argue with that.
