The only difference between Mormons and non-Mormons is that there is no difference.
My wife’s reason that the church is good is because it’s so hard to find a group of people anywhere else who are really trying to be good. I am really frustrated that she is blind to the bad behaviour in the church and the good behaviour outside.
My reasoning has always been this.
If you need religion to even start "trying" to be good, you were not and will never be a good person.
I assume "trying to be good" to her means trying to be good as defined by the Mormon leaders. 😕
I've spent some time thinking about what would be an effective way to combat this line of thinking, but I don't have enough personal opportunities to really try anything.

That makes me sad, because I truly believe that most people do try to be good. They may have been taught different (or even perverted) versions of "good", but most people try. My whole extended family believes this though, that the world is fully evil, only members can be truly happy.
Isn’t that frustrating? If I had to guess, I’d say that 95% of people are good, decent, helpful, caring human beings. The other 5% fuck up a lot of shit. And it’s probably genetic.
