u/Dalimey (who appropriately identifies as "LAWFUL STUPID" shared a warning from reddit admins issuing their final warning against making the sub NSFW (despite the fact that the users of the sub are in full support). They promised to reply to it with "roll for persuasion or intimidation" if they got 10k upvotes, and here is the result. Outstanding move.

Why are all those people giving Reddit money by buying awards for that post?

There’s a significant chunk of power users that have spare Reddit coins from multiple sources, not necessarily bought

Yup that’s me, never spent a cent and when Alien Blue shut down I received coins and some other shit. I didn’t realise for years that I could give awards 😂

I subscribed to Reddit premium before the whole clusterfuck. If you're on Premium you might have a big pool of coins to spend on awards even after you cancel it.

I actually like awards a lot. I think it's an especially reasonable idea as a tip jar for the people running an instance. I'd be happy to give a small recurring contribution to instances I like, and if it gave me the ability to identify things I really like I'd consider that gravy.

You could open an issue on Lemmy's GitHub for this feature. It sounds really interesting. The developers should be aware of such features and how many people are interested on them.

Reddit gives em out for free. I had a handful but just never used em.
