Whether it be electronics, automobiles or medical equipment, the manufacturers should not be able to horde "oem" parts, render your stuff useless if you repair it with aftermarket parts, or hide schematics of their products.

Outside of replacing it when it's dying, is love to have phone batteries in an external charger. Forgot to charge overnight? No problem, swap a fresh one in. Going on a long vacation and lacking a portable charging brick? Bring some spares. Friend's phone dying and your battery is compatible? Loan it to them.
Nooooo you must buy zillion separate device from company. Don't forget a few adapters because obviously nothing is ever compatible. And every few years: let's invent a 'new' thing and have everyone upgrade their devices!
