I am just wondering... is it me- or is there a LOT of just general negativity here.
Every other post I see is...
- America is bad.
- Capitalism is bad. Socialism/Communism is good.
- If you don't like communism, you are a fascist nazi.
Honestly, it's kind of killing my mood with Lemmy. There are a few decent communities/subs here, but, the quality of content appears to be falling.
I mean, FFS. It can't just be me that is noticing this. It honestly feels like I am supporting a communist platform here.
I am on social media to post and read about things related to technology, automation, race cars, etc.
Every other technology post, is somebody bashing on Elon Musk (actually- that is deserved), or talking about Reddit (Let it go. Seriously. We are here, it is there).
On my hobby of liking racecars, I guess, half of the people on lemmy feel it is OK to vandalize a car for being too big.... and car hate culture is pretty big.
All of this is really turning off my mood regarding lemmy.
Lemmy has literally everything. There's very little moderation on some instances and things can get wild one way or the other, but you can block the communities (and if you use the connect app entire instances) and users posting it. Using the block button has massively improved my experience.
The problem I am facing- it's not just a few instances or communities exhibiting this behaviour. It's literally everywhere.
I support the right for everyone to have their own beliefs, so, I don't care if somebody is liberal, conservative, communism, socialist, etc...
But, the heavy socialism influence is literally EVERYWHERE.
It's not just isolated to hexbear, lemmygrad, etc... It's literally everywhere.
Any mention of capitalism, or being a conservative, is immediately called out as being facist and nazi.
Myself, I stick more on the libertarian side of things, but, damn. I am subscribed to communities all over lemmy, on many instances across the world, and the hatred feels like it's everywhere.
Its literally making me question my decision to host this instance, just so I can pay to store a bunch of socialism good, capitalism bad memes on pictrs.
Huh, that's not really my experience. Maybe because libertarians are so intensely pro capitalism/free enterprise/de-regulation that it just seems like everything is anti capitalism to you? Jeff Bezos being a piece of shit and the desire to tax billionaires isn't anti capitalism. I think one other thing to keep in mind is the US is politically on the right in a global context, and Lemmy seems to have more of a global presence than Reddit did. The US and the UK are pretty alone in their overall political beliefs when you add in the rest of the world to the conversation
I don't stick to true libertarianism. It's not the way.
But, i'd rather be associated with them, over being either liberal/democrat or conservative/republican. None of the parties are perfect, and only idiots will blindly believe and follow any individual party. But- that's a different story, for another time.
I am just sitting back, observing the interesting voting behaviour occurring on this post.
I'm a leftist, it works. I don't align with the democratic party, but they align with me a whole lot more than Republicans. And I am extremely against deregulation. Are there stupid regulations that benefit rich people? Yes. Does that mean we shouldn't have regulations? F no. There's a third option, it's not rocket science, fix the broken regulations. Corporations will never regulate themselves, history (both past and present) has shown that. Wait why am I ranting about this again?
Hey, that typically means you have the capability of thinking for yourself.
I'd honestly agree with basically every point you just made.
One thing I learned a long time back- I have an uncle who is quite liberal. Myself, I usually stick more on the conservative side. The funny thing is- if we actually talk about a current hot topic... we actually find we usually end up agreeing on things, after you remove the political element of it.
Universal healthcare? Yea. we need this. It needs to happen. But, the method of how, is the tricky part. I personally, have zero faith in our government to manage something, without royally fucking it up, and hemorrhaging money and resources. I mean.... let's be honest, they can't even fix a damn pothole.
