@[email protected] oh, I didn't notice! It should be regular single #. Normally the tags are returned without the # and I prepend it for display, but maybe pixelfed is returning them with the # and I'm duplicating it. Thanks for catching that!

@[email protected] I see the official pixelfed app does display trending tags properly, so it should work if make some adjustments when I read the data. If you're curious, this is the mastodon spec for how the data is returned (note the tag names are returned with no #) and I'm guessing that's not the case with pixelfed but I'll have to take a closer look.
