This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

finally a space to diss on jordanlund bless 😭

i was banned by this mod for politely noting how certain comments lead to escalation of inappropriate behavior. i noted how by bantering with infringing accounts after comment removal, !world@lemmy.world mods actually increased the work they needed to do to remove abusive content and amplified toxic voices as a whole. i used no unkind language and really at the time i genuinely hoped for improvement to the quality of the community.

their response?

  • permabanned
  • for β€œmod abuse”
  • one month after i made the post in question

don’t use !world@lemmy.world. their entire mod team is dedicated to just kind of fucking around in a sandbox with thousands of users, not to creating a space for genuine constructive world news engagement. preferably also just stop using lemmy.world when possible.

I am definitely considering switching from lemmy.world after the blatent censoring of posts and comments from large communities that happened the past few days.

[–] flicker@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yesterday when all this came out I immediately applied to my new instance and let me tell you- seeing all the content I was missing from the places world has defederated has been a blast!

Same! secret dbzer0 newcomer handshake

Hello,

Could we then consider moving !index@lemmy.world elsewhere?

[–] WanderingVentra@lemm.ee 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Woah I had no idea this community existed. Cool idea.

[–] Blaze@feddit.org 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Hopefully we'll move it soon ha ha

[–] laverabe@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah I have no problem moving it, but I think it might be actually more useful keeping it on LW?

It's more of a roadsign to point from the most popular instance to lesser popular instances. If we put the sign on a lower traffic instance less people will see it.

[–] Blaze@feddit.org 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You can keep keep the current one on LW, but then have a pinned post pointing to the active one elsewhere

!casualconversation@lemmy.world has that

[–] laverabe@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Honestly I know nothing about the other servers and picking one is a bit of a headache. I know the team that runs LW is very competent from an IT perspective. To go on another server I'd have to understand who ran it to make sure they truely understood the technical and legal issues in the long run. Is there a site that objectively compares the different instances?

https://lemmy.zip/ is very well run

They regularly post very detailed updates on !home@lemmy.zip such as this one: https://lemmy.zip/post/27236300

They also offer very detailed information on those pages:

If you would be okay to lock the LW community and point to a new !index@lemmy.zip, I can create it using my alt. You can then create an alt on Lemmy.zip and I would appoint you as moderator.

Another option is https://lemm.ee/, I have a few communities there running smoothly, such as !movies@lemm.ee, !showsandmovies@lemm.ee and !casualconversation@lemm.ee. Second largest instance, so proof of good management

[–] laverabe@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'll try lemmy.zip. Waiting for approval now. They have to manually verify all accounts so I'll check back tomorrow.

World is the most carbon copy of Reddit of all instances. And that's not a pro.
