Oh that's really weird. Here's what it looks like on the web UI and Jerboa:

I'd recommend contacting your app's developer and asking them to support the official Lemmy markdown syntax. I suspect it's very possible they may not properly support ^superscript^ and ~subscript~ syntax either, if it's a former Reddit client hastily ported over.
