Intermittent Fasting

Intermittent Fasting (IF) is way of eating that restricts when you eat, usually on a daily or weekly schedule. People engage in IF to reap the many benefits to health, fitness, and mental clarity. This is a place to share success, support each other, ask questions, and learn. IF is an 18+ community because the practice is not medically recommended to/for children.

Last summer, I was doing 18/6 and had some great results, but I fell off the wagon. For the past few weeks, I've been doing 16/8 and doing well.. just trying to cut down on snacking. I have a serious issue with overeating, and IF seems to be the only thing that helps. Any IF fans on Lemmy?

My kid (well, kid...he's in his late 20s), started a 20/4 IF about 2 months ago. He's been really good on it and has dropped almost 60 pounds. IF doesn't work so great for me. It's all or nothing. I'm sure it's not healthy for me, but going on multi-day fasts is the first thing that has actually seemed to work for longer lengths of time. I really wish I could take a pill that killed my appetite.

I'm sure it's not the best thing in the world, but a caffeine pill in the morning and a ton of water makes the fast pretty darn easy.

That is exactly how I get through my fasts. When hunger hits, a couple big swallows of very cold water seems to mitigate the hunger relatively quickly. I also look forward to the little rush I feel when I get to the other side of a hunger moment.
