The biggest change that social media and the Internet have brought about in the sports world is that there are no good surprises anymore.
If we had signed Leroy Sane, people would have been frothing about the German car buying saga. If we had signed Osimhen, people would have pointed to some stupid Turkish barber Tiktok.
Because clubs are afraid that someone will leak good news (or worse, randomly film it and post it to the Internet), they're eager to post it as soon as it's feasible for them. On the other hand, they delay releasing bad news as long as possible in order to figure out how to PR their way out of it. But in the meantime, everyone and their grandmothers have watched clips of - for example - Calafiori getting acrobatically assassinated by Dembele.
Imagine the shock if Odegaard appears on the team sheet on Sunday with zero fanfare from the club.
Bring back good surprises.
