I'm a dude, and these aren't even the ones I was thinking of, they don't look bad. The ones I was thinking of has an "aggressive" ruffled seam at the upper butt area and that looks bad IMO.

I personally think so too, but when I consulted with my wife about that style recently, she informed me that seam and the ruffles are to prevent the leggings material from thinning out and becoming transparent when doing squats or bendy yoga stuff.

So, they're made for actually working out, even though I basically only see them at the grocery store and shit

Hahaha I do yoga and most of the women pants don't have that and it doesn't really make a difference IMO. I took a class a few weeks ago out in the Florida sun with like 40 other people, most were women, and there was only one that looked like she was wearing leggings rather than yoga pants. When she was bent over you could clearly see her black thong through her black pants.
