Wondering if it's a viable option or if the power requirements ruin it.

If you're just going to comment about how backpacking is better without interest, don't bother. I'm looking for people who have used the internet while backpacking, not and argument.

The full size Gen 1,2, and 3 systems are too large to realistically take backpacking. I use my Gen 2 dish for car camping.

The new Starlink Mini system is much smaller and has lower power requirements so it would be possible to bring it backpacking with you, though I still wouldn't want to carry that much weight personally.

The issue will be powering the dish. I think it still pulls about 40ish watts which will require a fairly large battery to have the system powered on for more than a few minutes at a time.
