According to the Trump and the Mob, Pence was supposed to use his powers over the election certification to recognize the fake electors instead of the real ones from a few key states. And failing that, get everything tossed so Congress would vote on the next president.
Fwiw, they wouldn't have hanged him. He wouldn't have made it to the rope.
