Sad to hear.

Never hike alone.

Never hike without a clear plan, with others aware of that plan.

Take plenty of water, take food (emergency rations that can tolerate heat are pretty cheap).

Wear appropriate clothes, have stuff in your pack.

Have a communications plan.
