I despise this remake marathon.

It's not a remake:

with this dubbed a whole new take on the character.

Wright can, you'd hope, pick and chose his projects and he wouldn't want to waste his time on a remake.

Barbarella was originally a long-running French comic that has been brought back in American comic books a few times. There is a plenty of material to draw on or space for Wright to go off in his own direction.
